Intro to Animation: ALL IN ONE

It`s so hard to recall but I will try my best.

I took time to adapt the strange enviroment and new classmates. I work with people I never met before and try to read their feelings.

And I did a fine job. No one is trying to punch me while I `m typing down those words.

So thank you my dear classmates who I worked with. Thank you for bearing and working with me.

So we went to the galleries. made presentations and videos.

We even chopped down a piece of wood and drew stick men on it.

Wow, we did a lot actually. I hope this team could do more in the future.

Character Design: Soviet Soldier.

As my shoulder is now hurts as hell. I am going to stop drawing my poor character and come here to write some nonsense.

PPSH-41!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and beer.

Here she is, the one and only scout soldier with a PPSH-41. A great submachine gun that was produced and widely used during the WW2 by Soviet Army. It is at the time one of the easiest guns to manufacture and it can shoot over 900 bullets in one minute. Because of this, no one could stand before its fire range.

The character herself doesn`t change much from my draft. I `m going to put the draft here so it`s easier to compare.

I changed Kar98k to PPSH-41 as I realized that 98k is a German gun and is not suitable for a Soviet Soldier to possess. I made the color ratio much much darker to create the sense of coldness. the snowflakes are for the same purpose. Her coat looks more stiff now as tsnow melted into water and soaks the coat. before it can dry the water inside freeze into ice and make the whole coat stiff and rough. Now the expression looks more pathetic. I minimized the reflection on the boots as old boots cannot reflect that much of light. There is more objects on her belts including an extra ammo drum and a TT-33 handgun. I spent a long time doing research and finding examples of the gun. This is my first time drawing a proper gun and I am satisfy of my outcome. For the first time, and only for now.

Now I feel maybe I did too much work on the color palette. Now she looks like she`s going to freeze to death.

I drew beer becasue Vodka looks like water.

For the sideview I replaced the heavy coat and weapons to give a view of what she would behave when she feels safe and comfy. I put some warm light on the boots and trousers to show it`s indoors scene. There is some scars on her arms as the symbol of battle. Her necklace is a small bag contained some seeds from her hometown. She kept in that way to remind herself the reason of this war. Her expression looks way more relax. maybe it`s because the beer in her hand.

Maybe when my shoulder feels better I will come back and do some expression sheet. Can anyone please tell me how to keep drawing without painful body parts?

And I`m back, with my trash emotional sheet with me. I just found out it`s called emotional sheet. I have been calling it expression sheet for 18 years! Think of that…

Now you got my character.

The next row would be her profile when she was still a young girl without killing experiences and the one who survived after the war with those medals and a heart full of horrible memories.

I must made lots of grammar mistakes and tense errors up there as I wrote and drew those after a nap and now I am watching deadpool 2. Sorry about that.

Anyway, I may finish this horrible war story when I got time in Christmas.

Character Design Idea

Here we are. Three weirdos .

Some ideas about winer characters.

I start to think about Soviet and WW2 when I started to think about winter. So I created a sovie soldier for the first attempt. The one wearing KAR98k and all those milltary gears.

I will expand her on the direction of how she behave on battlefield and when she is resting. Maybe some vodka?

And a tank maybe. T-34 ?

Second one I attempt to go for a little bit more fantacy elements. I create a female swordmaster with a sword made of pure ice. it`s super light comare to iron swords but she has to wear gloves to protect her hands. She wears a armoured dress which is wildly used in Mideval Ages battlefield.

The third one is like, completely fantacy. She would be the symbol of the winter You can see she is made out of ice and water. causing snow and blizzard and everything else. We got rituals of praying to the winter gods and goddess. And those became red ropes and small light surrounding on her ears.

As pathetic as always.

And some sketches I did yesterday.

Creative Writing: Short Story 150

So I wrote about a guy hiding in the rain, trying to take shots of our protagonist. I may underesteemed the limitation of 150 words as I found myself struggled to tell anything compelling in that word count.

I live outside the town.

But lately I have always felt like I am being spied on.

It’s late at night and there’s a thunderstorm outside, but my feeling of being spied on doesn’t lessen in the slightest.

As lightning and thunder bolt after thunder bolt come from outside the window, I cover my head with the blanket, leaving only a small gap, and hold my breath, not daring to move.

It has been five minutes, and through the gap, my sight falls on the bedroom window.

In the past five minutes, there have been six thunderclaps, but I count thirty flashes sound.

Click, click, click, the sound was so interspersed with the torrential rain that it was almost inaudible.

I hear the sound of breaking glass and I wish it is the wind.

And hopefully I am the only one who heard it.

The end.

Word count:146.

Sound: Or more of self-torturing?

That would be the second most time I spend on these rotation projects. I got pixel art poisioned and made these three small animations that talked about my dreams recently.

Ancient topics, I know.

The task was to make our own sound effects and it also took me a while. Not as long as the animation drawing but way more painful.

WAY WAY MORE PAINFUL.

I had to follow a lady to get a sound of high heels hitting the ground. I acted stupid in front of the public to see if I can make the air inside those steel pipes vibrates and make sound. I hope my neighbours won`t call the police as I was doing all kinds of dangerous things with my knives and metal stuff.

At last I got these. I am not satisfied with any single one of them. I hope I will do better in the future.

And someone that would do sound effects for me.

ALL KINDS OF TRASH HERE.

And I made a 51 seconds one. The task said it should be about 30 seconds. I even messed up on this part.

Way to go, myself.

Locational Drawing: Generations

I was trying to create watercolor effects on digital drawings…
Maybe too much red…

I`m really tired at this moment so I won`t say too much about my work. As it`s really easy to understand. My sketch was about a father and a son having meals, the background is the St. Paul`s Cathedral and everything seems so quiet and peaceful. At least that is the effect I want to achieve.

Original sketch.

You can see the father looks bigger and has less hair on his head. There is a pair of glass on his nose. The son, on the other hand, seems smaller than his dad and is listening to whatever his father is talking about. That would be the details I observed and hopefully expressed on that paper.

And after that I went digital, I took lots of photos of the cathedral and combined them to create that view. I colored it in two palette to represent spring and autumn.

In spring you can see there`s only one person who is staring at the window, thinking about something. That is the younger version of the father in my sketch. He may just got married, thinking about future and so on. I use light color and pink to represent fresh air, strong breathing and cherry flowers. Spring means a new start, an opportunity for all lives to start fresh and achieve more, That is something I think people will feel at this stage of life.

In autumn you can see a old man sitting on the chair, That is the elder version of the father, his son may had his own family, his wife may passed away, anyhow the story for him is coming to an end. I use yellow and orange to show the last few sunshine before the winter, withered leaves and twigs falling on the roof. There`s no shadow of the man on this page as there is not much sunshine to cast a shadow anymore. Autumn calls leaves back to the land, everything start to prepare for the winter. I believe this would be the thoughts the father would start to think, about how to face his own ending.

So that`s it. Some foolish thoughts when I drew those two trash. Any likes would be my honor. Thanks for reading till here.

Locational Drawing:Tate Modern

Thank you Tate Modern and all the strangers that beared me with my weird disgusting eyes.

Here to record my works for others to have something to laugh at and having kind of mental comfort.

Miserable resolution and miserable lines.
There`s cool girls doing backflips. I hope I found them eariler.
Other junks I created after leaving the Tate Modern

Finally thanks to my legs for carrying me throughout the whole day. I`m out.

Photographics: Car accident

I have no idea what to say for my photo. I got no idea of what to make and what should I shoot in the first two days.

I went out and took random pictures which turned out no help at all. What you see below is an engine of a car, I crossed by a broken vehicle and I took the picture while no one`s watching.

You can see three pipes diving the canvas. Or, three curves divided the canvas into several triangles. I put some leaves and rocks from the photo I took alone the way to add more various shapes. Natural elements always give us the most comparison of shapes in compare of artificial gears.

There`s repetition of patterns at the end of the curve. Creating even more shape changes on the curve itself. I wish my picture could look more dynamic as there`s no stiff or unchanged lines.

The last photo I used is for texture, I used the rough surface of a tree trunk and put it on the curve so there`s not only shape change and surface change.

Yeah I don`t know what I `m talking about. Sorry.

Pipes!

I made the final output more like a pixelart maybe because I`m doing pixelart recently. I was trying to create something more narrative, something that takes time to understand. And let`s say as being an example of a complete failure I was quite sucessful.

The idea was not only making three layers of hierarchy but more. I divide pictures into different parts and overlap them. I used mask tools to make small changes to make everything more harmonic.

All parts I divided from three pictures. Sorry for the annoying background.

I see nothing when I tried to see shapes instead of objects. I don`t know what to shoot or what to do with the final output. I spend two days photographing meaningless random pictures and all of them turned out no use at all. I wish I could have a theme but I do not.

So that`s all for photographics. the hardest session I have met so far.

Other tests I did.

Weekends By-products: Pixel gifs.

I was playing TRPG games, therefore I got lots of ideas from the fictional adventure I suffered in the game. And I got a great pile of friends who plays in different roles in the game. One of them is a dward guard, and one of them is a swordmaster…

I hope you could recall some of the pixel animation if you played street fighter games before. You may recall that those fancy sparkles and blue orbs those fighters generate when they punch someone really hard.

“技 ” or Waza in Romaji,

is what SKILLS are called in Japanese

Every characters have their own specialized skills, some may now how to heal, some may know how to headshot another one in a distant fight. Different skills animations help building the characters themselves along with the preference from the players or viewers.

So, I was boring and I did some small pixel animation for my character and one of my friend`s character, a female dwarf.

A rabbit who is generating an energy arrow.
A dwarf girl who is defending with her giant shield.

And there is nothing I can show for character design or anything else. I made those characters from scratch directly on the canvas.

Actually I was thinking of the height problem of those little things. Should dwarfs be taller or shorter than a bunny?

I don`t know, and I don`t even know how short dwards should be and how to show female feactures in a heavy-armoured dwarf.

It`s kind of interesting if you put those two into one canvas:

Successfully polished our enermy`s shield.

That shall be a brief report of what I did in the weekends.

Traditional 2D Animation: Slime

And at the last day I finally get something that I am satisfy with. What do you think of Slime? Those slimy, slow, silly small creatures are in fact the most popular monster in RPG games. I inspired from the various deformation slimes can do and create this animation.

Slime can melt itself and form a hammer, a sword, a shield or even form a human shape to fight or interact with others. What they can do is what animation can be, infinite imaginary hides inside a small slime.

Ultimate life form and best friend of new adventurers

The heart in the middle will be the weak spot. but I didn`t draw it in my animation becasue I’m lazy.

I try to apply all the technique I `ve learned in the session, including bouncing balls, arc movements, ease in and ease out .etc. And I made two verisons of the video, one for 12fps and the other for 25fps.

I personally like to draw straight-ahead as I alwasy mess up my frames and I can` think straight when I`m thinking backwards.

Another rubbish sentence I wrote. I mean when I start to imagine what will the character do before this pose when I do pose to pose, I struggle to decide the range of the displacement to match up with the key frame.

In 25 FPS. So fast that I can`t tell what`s going on in there.
In 12 FPS. It`s better as the preparing pose I designed is now clearer to see.

I feel like most of my works in recent days are in black and white. Maybe I should do something in color. Maybe later.

I still don`t know how to show my final piece in a pdf.
